YOGA

I teach yoga for people who are interested in feeling good in their body. My sequences are flowing, feminine and deceptively powerful.

This may sound obvious, but let’s be clear - it’s all about feeling good. By mindfully bringing together your breath, the yoga sequencing and a deep respect for the intelligence of your own body, we create an internal environment of safety within which the body can heal itself.

My focus is your nervous system and ways to soothe it, so that if your world is feeling stressed out, exhausted or anxious you can remember ways to get yourself back in a good place. I want you to understand how your breath effects your headspace. I want you to fine tune your awareness so that you remember to prioritise pleasure in your body. I want to give you a map back to yourself.

Yoga includes breath work, a physical vinyasa flow and meditation. Your class may include some or all of these ingredients, depending on what you are seeking.

WHO IS VINYASA YOGA FOR?

Vinyasa Yoga is the perfect movement practice for men and women interested in strengthening their body, increasing flexibility and regaining balance and peace of mind.

What are the physical requirements for YOGA?

Every yoga pose has a modification, allowing you to make it as strong or gentle as you choose. Yoga is open to all levels of mobility and can be fine tuned to work within your level of mobility and energy.

How will a session unfold?

There is no set formula, but most yoga classes begin with basic breath work and move into a flowing, dance like practice designed to fine tune your sensitivity to your own body, allowing you to discern what feels good. Feeling good is always our compass.

What will you need to bring?

QOYA

Qoya classes are based on the idea that through movement we remember. We remember our essence is wise, wild and free. Wise, wild and free draw reference to the movement modalities of Qoya:

Wise: calling on the wisdom of yoga.

Wild: the creative expression in dance.

Free: expanding our capacity to enjoy being in our bodies through feminine movement.

Qoya helps us to remember those things that can never be put into words. The moment when you see a sunset and your whole body exhales. When you are on a road trip and feeling the sensation of adventure. When you get caught up in the contagious laughter of a child or feel the warmth of your lover’s body in bed whilst it is raining outside.

Qoya is designed to feel how the body and movement are a portal to remembering, to feel our perspective shift from going through the motions to savouring life as sacred. From being in our heads to being in our body. Qoya stands for embodiment. As we dance Qoya, we encourage one another to shine confidently as a woman who remembers she is wise, wild and free.

Why is Qoya for women only?

Qoya is about creating a safe space for a woman to truly feel. To go inwards and honour the Intelligence within the cells of her being. This is a courageous intention in a world that leans towards numbing the internal and pleasing the external world. By creating a woman-only environment, we minimise the distractions and support the journey inwards. After Qoya, we are better able to love and support the masculine within us and around us!

What are the physical requirements for Qoya?

Because Qoya is inviting you to tap into the Intelligence within your body, there is no way you can do it wrong. Nobody gets to be the authority on how you move, only you. This means that Qoya can be practiced by every level of physical ability.

How will a session unfold?

We shall open our Workshop with some simple breath work, calling our awareness to our internal environment, soothing the body and stilling the mind. We shall dance Qoya to mindfully choreographed beautiful, uplifting music. The movement draws primarily on traditions of yoga and dance, with a gentle thread of The Four Winds Shamanic lineage and a deep tantric respect for the sacredness of the physical temple that is our body. Our session will close with a deep guided relaxation.

Sonja has been teaching Qoya since 2016 when she trained with founder Rochelle Schieck in France. On a personal level, Qoya has transformed Sonja's life by giving her the tools to finally feel truth in her own body, to access and trust her intuition and to allow the unfolding of a deep remembering of who she is - courageous, sensual and intelligent. Sonja trains Qoya Teachers in the UK via The Initiation in Poole, Dorset twice a year. She is a mother, vinyasa yoga instructor, massage therapist and tantric meditation teacher.
